Getting your account linked to a player
Your account needs to be linked to one or more player records before the app can show you a schedule, stats, or chat threads for a team. There are four ways this happens:
1. Automatic — matching email address
As soon as you verify your email (see Install & Sign Up), the app checks your email against the player emails on file in HockeySyte for every team. If your email matches, you're linked immediately and automatically — nothing else to do.
2. Request Player Assignment
If there's no automatic match, tap Request Player Assignment — it appears on the Home page under "No players allocated" and on Profile → Players (so you can request additional players later too, not just your first one). Pick the division, then the team, then one or more players from that team's roster, and tap Submit Request. A team manager or admin for that team is notified and reviews your request from their Assignment Requests queue (see Managers & Coaches: Reviewing player assignment requests) — once approved, the player is linked to your account automatically. If it's denied instead, you'll get a notification.
3. Your QR code
Open Profile → Players and tap Show My QR Code (the same button appears on the Home page under "No players allocated"). This displays a personal QR code with the text "Show this code to a team manager to link a player to your account." Show it to your team manager in person — they scan it from their own device to complete the link immediately, without going through the request/approval queue above.
4. Contact your team manager
If you can't submit a request or meet in person to scan a code, reach out to your team manager directly (via team chat, email, etc.) and ask them to search for your account and assign your player manually — see Allocating players to users.
What the Home page shows once you're linked
Once at least one player is linked to your account, the Home page automatically opens to the active season and division for that player's team(s) — Schedule, Standings, iceIQ, Leaders, and Awards tabs, plus a division picker if you're linked to players across more than one division. See Home & Divisions for a full breakdown of each tab.
Availability / game check-in
For each upcoming game, open Game Details → iceIQ and find the Your Availability section for the player(s) linked to your account. Tap In if you expect to play, or Out if you won't be at the game. A quick In/Out prompt also appears directly on a schedule tile from the Home page for faster check-in without opening the full game screen.
- Availability can only be set on upcoming games — it locks once the game is underway/completed.
- You can only set availability for players linked to your own account; a team manager or coach can set it on your behalf for any player on the roster (see Changing a player's availability).
- If you haven't set a status yet, the player shows as Unknown in the roster list — you may receive a push notification reminder asking you to set it (see Notifying users for availability).
Penalty box attendant assignment
Each team needs one player on penalty box duty per game. If your player has been assigned, you'll see them listed under their team's own Penalty Box Attendant card on the Game Details → Roster tab for that game — home and away teams are assigned independently, so your player only ever shows up under your own team's card. This is assigned by your team manager or coach — see Managers & Coaches for how it's set.
